This is the eternal journey of the chivalrous and the moral. We wander the planes of virtual exsistance looking for a bastion stronger then the last in an attempt to hold out against the equally mobile forces of grief and anguish.
Translation:
The decent players of games tend to come to a game first and play to the best of their ability. Shortly thereafter however, the enemy finds the most effective ways to be intolerable. Ignoring the problem doesn't work, it never has and never will.
So the decent players talk to their buddies and search around. Then when the next big game opens up, they move on to greener pastures and do their best to enjoy themselves before the minions of immaturity follow.
Descriptions such as "Little Kids" and "Hormonal Teenagers" are only spewed by the ignorant. I have found, from experience, that the real spawning grounds for these people are FPS. I'm not saying ALL FPS players are this way, but the sociological structure there is based on pure competition, therefore, the majority of FPS players have real attitude issues that they carry over to other games.

I think alot of GW players could do with some time on a sports team to learn a bit of discipline and respect towards others- you take out all your aggression during the match, and play to your best, but afterwards everyone shakes hands and says '
good game.' Anyone who shouted an inanity like '
lawl, pwnt n00b!1!!1!,' or the real world equivelant, would get a swift smack off a teammate and told to shut his mouth.

I just had to laugh reading that, "Real" !
I can imagine in the glory days of Roy Keane if any of the kids in the United side had done it.
"Button it, ye gobshite!"
THWACK!

There have been and always will be a-holes.
There has been no increase nor decrease in such.
The only deviation is that of your perception and general experience.

It is a problem. It is getting worse. Is it Anets fault? No way. You cant expect them to punish little kids just because their parents are to lazy to teach them some common manners. Its the age we live in where 'Chavs' and 'yobs' who have no respect for society think that its ok to ruin stuff for others. However i dsilike the fact that people instantly jump to teenagers as the problem. I do accept that most of these people will be of the younger generation but that does not mean they all are nor does it mean all teenagers are as moronic as them. I myself am a teenager. I was however lucky enough to have a decent family that told me to say please and thank you. As far as im concerned im a better person for it.
The fact is these people get enjoyment out of others missery. If that means scamming, insulting, cheating whatever they will do it. Why they enjoy such a thing is beyond me but they do.

I rather play a good offline rpg game with farbetter storyline then finish GW with bots. So why do i still stick around in GW is because i want to interact with other real players. So you get the good with the bad with it. Its too bad that GW doesnt have ingame moderators or something like that. I have played Anarchy Online for a few years and i loved the ARK's which are longtime paying customers who have volunteerd to help/moderate/solve disputes for other players.

Honestly that would be a great idea... I mean some "try" but usually end up slapped in the face for it. If they were given something "official" to make them stand out as mods they would be taken more seriously and it would take a lot of pressure off other people trying to find PUGs when they would prefer to just hench it but can't... =/
Also it would keep those kids coming from presear from getting jerked around to badly. I think they should concider it!

It's a problem, but you gotta deal with it. There's idiots out there, but for each idiot there's at least 5 more nice people. I've played in games where hacking was a major problem and it was very simple, thus causing mass paranoia about hacked and "duped" items, so I was very glad when I found the extremely low amount of cheating in GW. I have a lot of nice friends in my guild, so maybe that makes it easier, but all in all GW is just peachy compared to many other online games. Put simply, the Nice person:Asshat ratio is much better in GW than it is in real life :/

As far as any class getting into a group, the majority of players (Especially the cocky ones that don't know their own small worth) have the false idea that there's only a few set builds that can ever be any good and set groups that will work. They lack the creativity to find a good new builds. Like me, I found My new Earth ele build that I do far better with than I ever did with my Nuker... I can Tank with an ELE for crying out loud, not that I try to but I have the equivelent of 82 def. armor. I also have an Idea for a Ranger/Rit build... That's all I'm going to say about that though.
The other thing is really no matter what the group is made up of, if all the players are good the group will do good. I beat the Ring Of Fire mission and bonus with a group of 7 warriors only 4 W/Mo, and myself as a barrage/pet ranger. No monk at all.

Ring of Fire is only really hard for casters - and thats because of the towers. As long as think was healing you, you are fine.

Anyway, I mirror how people act to me.
I can be the biggest jerk/griefer in the game, and I also help new players.

Unfortunatly since guild wars is a team based game and hench can't always get you through, you do have to get into parties. I agree there has been a decline in the community as of late but with a non-monthly fee game kids are free to roam around and act like idiots all the time. I think that's another issue, since guild wars is so easy to play comparing to othrer MMORPGs, there's no real since of loyalty or maturity of players. Yes I relize you'll get jerks and little kids in every game but it seems to be rampaging in guild wars even more. Not like this can be fixed though :/ (Unless hench are buffed ^_^)

i will bet the guy was trying to make a farming build.. glad's defense is useless for anything else really...
too bad he actually has to go do 4 missions before he can get it.. i feel so sorry for him (not really)
the comunity is a lot better than in some other games, but it is definitely heading the wrong way :/

There's a reason why the "Biggest Jerk" thread has been so far, the biggest thread I've seen.
I don't care, you don't care, Anet doesn't care and most certainly everyone posting here doesn't care. Your thread isn't going to do squat to improve the GW community because nobody gives a damn.
How I solved the problem is that I gave up on the GW community. That's right, I gave up on the humanity of the game. I stopped caring and I pretty do anything, anywhere to whoever I want in the game. How did I do it? Well of course, I know that 99% of the people there are asshats. So I don't feel bad if I scam/ragequit/scold/insult some unfortunate n00b. Chances are, he's already a jerk or he's going to turn into a jerk anyway with or without my abuse.
So why bother? Why waste your time trying to reason/be nice with someone over the internet who probably doesn't even have the mental capacity to open a banana?
Jeez, you guys aern't superheroes, you aern't going to save anyone from anything, especially from the GW community. You either deal with it like I did, or you should go off and play Oblivion, where the NPC's somehow have parents who are able to teach them politeness and manners.

In defence to those 13 and under whom we as a community like to lable as immature and the root of the problem when it comes to stupitidy and rudeness... I have a 10yr old in my household who plays, the worst he does is put some rather interesting builds together.. not that different from what I'm experiencing with what I figure are older players though... but.. doesn't show the immaturity that we like to whinge about.
Makes me wonder if we're labeling younger people the wrong way, maybe it's the older ones that are immature and plain stupid, not the younger ones?
Oh yeah, in regards to how I know he hasn't made the immature remarks being discussed earlier.. one of the slots on his account is my character and I deal with his guild on a regular basis.. word gets back to me if he acts up

Demesis, what if it's people like you who give the young ones a bad rep? I don't know you, I don't know what or how you play, but I can make assumptions just as easily as you can.
